The water quality monitoring program is based upon a Memorandum of Agreement with the North Carolina Division of Water Quality (MOA).
Monthly sampling of numerous physical, chemical and biological parameters has been ongoing at 32 stations since 1995, carried out by researchers in the Aquatic Ecology Laboratory at the UNCW Center for Marine Science. The sites sampled, parameters analyzed and sampling frequency is described in Table A-1 of the MOA.
There is also supplemental sampling conducted based on the UNCW Aquatic Ecology Laboratory needs and scientific projects.
